4 Year Old Preschool Enrolments
In South Australia, ‘preschool’ and ‘kindergarten’ are the same.
All children have an ongoing guarantee to attend a government preschool the year before they start school (sometimes called 4-year-old preschool or year-before-school preschool). Find your local school or preschool
If your child turns 4:
-
before 1 May, they’re eligible to start preschool in term 1 that year
-
between 1 May and 31 October, they’re eligible to start preschool in term 3 that year
-
after 31 October, they’re eligible to start preschool in term 1 the following year
Aboriginal children can access 15 hours of preschool a week from 3 years of age.
Children in care or who have been in care also can access 15 hours of preschool a week from 3 years of age.
Going to preschool has a big impact on your child’s learning and development. Through play-based learning, your child is building important social, emotional and thinking skills to help them thrive.
